We made it back from Nova Scotia safe and sound. While Mr. Flackadelic had the day off yesterday, I was part of a panel discussion about social media at the Canadian Institute’s Corporate Communications conference. My co-panelists were David Jones of Fleishman-Hillard Canada, PR Works and Inside PR fame, and Sumeet Khana from Microsoft. Good chats, and interesting to hear perspective from folks outside the tech space who don’t live and breathe social media day in and out. Lots of companies and organizations (and certainly the public sector) are still grappling to understand the impact of social media on their business – internally and externally.
I got to try out the boss’s iPhone today. Pretty slick.
Speaking of bosses, Joey wrote a post on Global Nerdy about bosses as friends on social networks. Joey is bang on the money that openness is the best policy. If you’re interested in what happens when social media meets recruiting, danah boyd wrote an interesting commentary in response to a Harvard Business Review case that’s worth a read. She writes, “Part of living in a networked society is learning how to accessorize
our digital bodies, just as we learn to put on the appropriate clothes
to go to the office.”
