According to Dr Cliff Arnall, a UK physcologist, today (Jan. 22/07) is the most depressing day of the year.
…welcome to “Blue Monday” – Monday, 22 January – officially
designated by a psychologist as the most depressing day of the year. It has been singled out by Dr Cliff Arnall, psychologist and former tutor at Cardiff University, who has used mathematical equations to reach his verdict.
He worked out that people are most likely to get the blues in the final full week of January because of the combination of bad weather, Christmas debts and broken New Year resolutions. There seems to be some backing for his theory, too.
Here are the details on the formula, from MSNBC:
The model is: [W + (D-d)] x TQ
M x NAThe
equation is broken down into seven variables: (W) weather, (D) debt,
(d) monthly salary, (T) time since Christmas, (Q) time since failed
quit attempt, (M) low motivational levels and (NA) the need to take
action.
I dunno know about how your day is going, but it is a nice sunny day in Toronto, I have a new cubical neighbour, and I got a nice letter from our HR department outlining the deets of my promotion to Director of Communications, so I’m having a great one.
