Frequent readers will know that I planned to buy some carefully researched items at HMV with my Christmas gift certificates. Bloody HMV wanted $24.99 for the Blur album and $21.99 for the CSNY album. I know the CSNY album is $14.99 on Amazon.ca. Feeling frustrated and overwhelmed, partially due to the fact that HMV was playing the new Michael Jackson greatest hits CD, I quickly went to plan B. I just picked stuff I wanted anyway that wasn’t outrageously priced. I got Ryan Adams Love is Hell parts 1 & 2, Get Born by Jet and the No Doubt Greatest Hits CD. The No Doubt CD appears to be flawed as it won’t play on any CD player/drive in the house.
Nice.
And the record industry wonders why their business model is fucked.
The Ryan Adams stuff is cool, but as you might gather from the title, a bit heavy. Adams’s cover of Wonderwall is so sad it kicks ass. Jet is decent guitar rock, the first single, Are You Gonna Be My Girl, is representative of the rest of the album.
